‘Cong workers must not indulge in infighting’
Newly-appointed chief of Mumbai Regional Con-gress Committee (MRCC) Janardan Chandurkar on Monday appealed to his party workers against indulging in infighting for the sake of the party. He even asked district presidents of the party to be prepared for early Lok Sabha elections.
At a function held at the MRCC office, Mr Chandurkar took charge from party state unit chief Manikrao Thakre, who has been holding additional charge of MRCC after former chief Kripashankar Singh resigned from the post following allegations of corruption.
While addressing the party office bearers and workers, Mr Chandurkar through a story indicated that infighting or factionalism is not good for a party like Congress, which has a strong voter-base in the city.
He also made three demands to the state government related to Mumbai city. He said, “The government should regularise the slums till the year 2000. Property tax based on capital value should be scrapped and Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) scheme on lands related to Central government should be implemented.”
Without naming Shiv Sena, Mr Chandurkar said, “Only one party gets permission to hold political rallies at Shivaji Park. The Mumbai Congress will file an appeal in the high court seeking permission for holding a rally at Shivaji Park. We plan to invite Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi for the rally.”
Mr Thakre also asked partymen to gear up for early elections. He said, “All party workers in Mumbai should start preparing for the Lok Sabha elections amid speculations that they will be held in November this year.”
