Congress gets active on social media
To counter the opposition parties, especially the BJP, in the war waged on the social media, the state unit of Congress has opened Facebook accounts for all the district committees in the state. Further, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) is expected to organise training camps for party cadres.
Though late, the Congress has observed the effective use of social media by the opposition parties to target its ruling government and leaders. Therefore, the party has decided to create individual Facebook accounts for all the district committees. The party has also decided to appoint a member, who would actively post updates about the party programmes and welfare schemes of the ruling government.
The party has some 57 district committees, including the separate district committees for urban and rural areas. The decision was taken at a recent meeting of the party unit held in view of the preparation for the upcoming elections, said a senior office-bearer, on condition of anonymity.
“We have observed that the opposition parties are misusing social media like Twitter and Facebook to denigrate the ruling government. Hence, the decision was taken,” said a senior leader.
The AICC was also expected to organise training camps for the party cadres. “The initiative was taken by the AICC to educate the leaders on how to respond to the allegations of the opposition. We are expecting some leaders from New Delhi to guide us,” another leader said.
Meanwhile, in a bid to ensure success in the forthcoming elections, the party, which is still unsure of the face that would woo the voters, is requesting veterans to attract the loyalists. “A meeting of all the veteran leaders like former MLAs and MPs will be called in the presence of the CM and state unit president Manikrao Thakre, requesting their support for the crucial elections,” told a senior minister.
