Contractor held for thrashing civic engineer
The Chunabhatti police arrested a construction contractor for assaulting a junior engineer of the BMC, who had demolished his illegal construction on Saturday.
The arrested accused has been identified as Mohammed Nasir Mohammed Munir Shaikh (40), a resident of Kasaiwada area of Kurla.
According to the police, junior engineer Mangesh Rokade (40), attached to the building section of L-ward, on Saturday afternoon, demolished an illegal construction behind Faheem Alam Bakery at Hazi Karamat Ali Road.
“After completing the demolition work, when Rokade, along with his associates, was waiting for an auto rickshaw at Khajur Bhatti area, at around 6 pm, contractor Shaikh, who had an illegal construction at the site, arrived there and started abusing and threatening Rokade,” said an officer requesting anonymity.
“Rokade ignored him and while he was getting into an auto rickshaw, Shaikh started beating him. Rokade sustained minor injuries. The commotion attracted attention of the policemen, who were patrolling in the area. They immediately rushed to the spot and nabbed Shaikh,” officer added. Shaikh was taken to the Chunabhatti police station and was subsequently put under arrest under Sections 353, 332, 504 and 506 of the IPC. Investigators trying to find out whether Shaikh has any previous record of similar offences.
