Cop booked for raping colleague
A middle-aged police constable turned sub-inspector from the Buldhana district has been booked on charges of rape and cheating for allegedly maintaining a sexual relationship with a lady police constable for two years on the pretext of marriage.
The victim, who was made to go through an abortion during the relationship, was shocked when she learnt that the accused had married another woman this year, following which she slapped rape charges on him.
According to Mehkar police in the Mehkar taluka, the 30-year-old victim Suchitra (name changed) registered the rape and cheating case with them on Thursday night against the accused Pankaj Taide (around 33 years).
Suchitra and Taide knew each other since 2011 when they first met in the police headquarters of Buldhana. Taide at the time was posted with the Khamgaon police station as a police constable. Suchitra had separated from her husband and was taking care of her two children, an 8-year-old son and a 10-year-old daughter.
“Taide promised to take care of her children and marry her. Taide even got her a rented place where she lived with him. After the promise, Taide forced Suchitra into maintaining a sexual relationship with her at the rented place. Last year, he made her go through an abortion. He also took gold and cash collectively worth `90,000 and did not return it,” said investigating officer, police inspector B.I. Suryawanshi of the Mehkar police station.
This year, Taide passed an internal exam for becoming a police sub-inspector. Soon after becoming the sub-inspector, he ditched Suchitra and married another woman. “We have sent summons to him but he is untraceable. He would soon be suspended,” added Mr Suryawanshi.
