Cop forged letters to dupe 60-yr-old

PSI Dilip Bhosale from the state ATS had arranged forged “allotment” letters from the Mantralaya and the collector’s office, which were later given to 60-year-old Sheriyar Irani.
The police has seized several such documents from Bhosale’s residence and will now investigate the means used to forge the letters and stamps. The police custody of the four other accused, along with Bhosale, which lapsed on Tuesday was extended by three days.
Bhosale and the four others were arrested by the Meghwadi police on Friday for allegedly duping Mr Irani to the tune of `60 lakh by promising him a flat under the CM’s quota for physically disabled persons as his son was handicapped.
“Bhosale had arranged ‘order copies’ and ‘allotment letters’ from the Mantralaya and the collector’s office which were handed over to Mr Irani. It is clear that the documents are forged, as the collector’s office had pointed out the scam to Mr Irani himself when he cross-checked with them. We have also communicated to Mantralaya to seek more details from them. Currently, it seems the accused had duped only Irani and it was their first crime,” said an officer from Meghwadi police station.
PI (crime) Dnyaneshwar Ganore confirmed that the police custody of the accused was extended. “We argued before the court that we needed to learn how the documents were forged, and if other persons were involved in duplicating them,” he said.
Another officer added, “Sanjay Mehta had invested in a `10 lakh
FD in a bank, whose receipt we have seized. Rajesh Upadhyay (60) had purchased a second hand Santro car and a gold chain, which we have recovered too. Only rest of the cash and a demand draft of `17 lakh given by Sheriyar remains to be found.”
