The Malwani police claims to have cracked the murder case of a 30-year-old woman, who was found dead on a road near Dana Paani beach, Aksa, in Malad (west) on January 23 this year, with the arrest of her 22-year-old boyfriend. The victim was allegedly forcing the accused to marry her.
The Malvani police said that the accused Bahadur alias Vijayendra Singh is an autorickshaw driver and lived on rent in Mumbai. He knew the victim Rihana Shaikh since the last four years. On the fateful day, Singh took Shaikh for a ride in his autorickshaw and strangulated her to death with her dupatta. After the autopsy report, the police circulated her photographs; Shaikh was identified on March 2. Assistant commissioner of police, Jaywant Hargude of Malwani said, “During our investigations, we learnt that Singh was her boyfriend. Singh’s parents had got him engaged in his village Dholpur, Rajasthan and were forcing him to get married. At the same time, Shaikh was forcing him to marry her.” Abdulrauf Shaikh, senior inspector, Malvani police station, said, “We searched a lot for him. On Monday, acting on a tip-off, we finally nabbed him from Nalasopara. We have gained his custody
