Cops crack last year’s murder case, 3 held
The Mumbai police crime branch on Monday solved a murder case of a man whose body was found in a nullah in Kanjurmarg last year. The police has arrested three men in connection with the case. The accused had killed the man after a fight broke out between them over a petty issue.
Arrested accused are identified as Babloo Kapildev Singh (32), Sushil alias Dungarya Dasharath Kurade (27) and Riyaz Ahemad Subhedar Ansari (34). Singh and Kurade are bus drivers and Ansari is an autorickshaw driver. They were arrested for allegedly killing Shivanand alias Lodya Shantappa Pujari (34), who lived in Ambedkar Nagar, MIDC, in Andheri.
According to the police, on May 16 last year, the Kanjurmarg police found a a man’s decomposed body lying in a gutter at the Eastern Express Highway (Mumbai-Thane Road) near Vikhroli- Jogeshwari Link Road, Kanjurmarg (East). The body was decomposed with deep injuries on the head and could not be identified for a long time. The unit-7 of the crime branch also initiated a parallel probe in the matter and learnt that a missing person’s complaint had been lodged in the MIDC police station during the same period. After days of investigation, the police has finally traced the close relatives of the deceased who identified the body with the help of his clothes.
During the probe, the police learnt that Pujari was a petty thief and habitual drinker. “He had stolen tapes from the accused’s vehicles. We had detained them on suspicion and questioned them during which they confessed to their crime,” said an officer.
He added, “They revealed that on May 12, last year all three had a drinking session with the Pujari in Singh’s bus. A sudden quarrel erupted between the accused and Pujari. They drove him to the Eastern Express Highway and murdered him.”
