Cops grill 5 suspects in Ajmera builder's wife's murder case
The Pant Nagar police, in its investigations of the murder of Ghatkopar resident Chetna Ajmera (49), has zeroed in on five prime suspects who were in the building between the time her husband Jayant left for work and the time she was found dead on Monday night.
The police is currently questioning the building watchman, two workers who had been called in to fix new sliding windows in the house, the Ajmeras’ housemaid and her husband.
“The two workers arrived at around 1 pm, after which Mr Ajmera left for work. They have said during questioning that they left by 3 pm, and the maid arrived before their departure. The maid, too, left by 4 pm, and nobody knows who visited the house between then and 8 pm on Monday, when Mr Ajmera returned and discovered the murder,” said an officer with the Pant Nagar police.
Some neighbours, however, have said they saw three pairs of slippers outside the house at around 4.30 pm, when all of the detained suspects had supposedly left the Ajmera residence. This had led the police to believe that there were at least three people involved.
“The perpetrators have to be known to Chetna as she opened the door, waited for them to take off their footwear and let them in,” the officer said.
The police is also probing if the crime was actually a murder made to look like a robbery. Inquiries are being made to find out if there were any ongoing disputes.
