‘Cops involved in graft’
Leader of Opposition in the state legislative Assembly Eknath Khadse on Monday levelled serious allegations of corruption against the state’s police department. BJP MLA Devendra Fadnavis also said that after the 26/11 terror attacks, there has been a scam in every purchase made by the department.
Mr Khadse alleged that additional commissioner of police (traffic)Brijesh Singh had toured South Africa under the guise of procuring bomb disposal suits and other material.
Speaking about the allegations of corruption against the policedepartment, home minister R.R. Patil in his reply said that with respect to the purchase of bomb disposal suits and belts, action was already initiated against Bimal Kumar Agarwal, Kishore Agarwal and one Barkha Agarwal. Action has been taken against them as they were involved in purchasing these suits.
Responding to questions raised regarding the theft of the Ganesha idol from temple in Dive Agar, Raigad, Mr Patil said that the idol would be recovered soon. He said that police teams have been dispatched to three states, and the case would be cracked soon. However, he also asked the temple trusts to be more careful about their own security.
Meanwhile, regarding Mumbai Region Congress Committee president and MLA Kripashankar Singh amassing unaccounted property, the home minister said that as per the high court’s orders, the commissioner of police Arup Patnaik is conducting an inquiry and report would soon be submitted in the court.
Earlier, Mr Khadse alleged that the state was shielding Mr Singh despite the Anti-Corruption Bureau’s report. While Congress members in the House including minister Narayan Rane objected to the allegations against an MLA in his absence, Mr Khadse maintained that he was just referring to the ACB report and HC order.
