Cops nab fleeing robber after theft

The VP Road police has arrested a robber as he was fleeing after robbing a businessman on gunpoint in the Bhuleshwar area on Saturday night. A pistol and two cartridges were recovered on his person. The police claimed that the arrested accused is the kingpin of a Rajasthan-based robbers’ gang. His two associates, who were with him at the time of robbery, managed to escape and are being hunted by the police.
The arrested accused has been identified as Subhash Babulal Bishnoyi (20) who originally hails from the Jalor district of Rajasthan.
According to the police, businessmen Ashok Shah, a Mulund resident who supplies chemicals, was returning home on the night of March 2 after collecting `20,000 in cash from one of his clients at Chandi Lane in Bhoiwada area.
“At around 9 pm, when Shah was passing by Swaminarayan Building, a man intercepted him and punched him. He then pulled out a pistol and snatched the bag containing cash from him. Before fleeing, two more person joined him,” said Ashok Jadhav, assistant commissioner of police on Tuesday.
Mr Jadhav added, “While escaping from the crowded area, the robbers threatened locals not to obstruct their path or they would be killed. This sparked panic in the area and patrolling officers reached the spot. Two constables, Gaikwad and Khadtare then ran after the robbers and after chasing one of them for a while, they managed to catch one of the robbers at Bhuleshwar Road, who was later identified as Bishnoyi. A 0.32 caliber country-made pistol and two live cartridges were recovered from him. He was remanded in to police custody till March 6 by a local court.”
The police has now launched a manhunt for his two associates, Dinesh and Prakash Bishnoyi.
Inspector Shrikanth Desai said, “The accused had information that Shah would be carrying a huge sum of cash with him on the fateful day, but their tip-off proved wrong. We are also trying to trace the informant who tipped off the gang. We are in touch with the Rajasthan police to determine if the gang has any prior cases against them in their state too.”
