Cops in search of youth who got girl pregnant
The Oshiwara police is on the lookout for a 20-year-old man, who allegedly got a 16-year-old girl pregnant. The matter came to light when the victim was six months pregnant.
According to an official, the accused and the victim live in Bhagat Singh Nagar area of Goregaon (west). The victim and the accused were in love and were also involved in a physical relationship. Soon after the victim got pregnant, she confided in her mother. Her mother, fearing social stigma, left their Goregaon residence and took her to live in an ashram in Pimpri-Chinchwad. At the time, the victim was one-month pregnant.
In the sixth month of her pregnancy, the authorities at the ashram saw her baby bump and questioned her mother. After the victim’s mother narrated her ordeal, the ashram authorities, along with the mother-daughter duo, approached the MIDC Bosari police station in Pune and registered a case of rape. “The case has been transferred to us as the incident took place in our jurisdiction,” said police inspector B. Mukhedkar of the Oshiwara police station.
A case of rape under Section 376 of the IPC and under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act has been registered against the accused.
