Corporators want water woes solved on priority
Roads, water and cleanliness are the major issues that public representatives want the BMC to attend to on a priority basis. The civic chief was bombarded with these demands when he met them on Saturday.
Municipal commissioner Sitaram Kunte recently held a meeting with the city MPs and MLAs of western and eastern suburbs to discuss civic development works and measures to be taken to solve them. He was bombarded with complaints regarding road widening, flyovers, water supply, cleanliness, health, sewerage, traffic, nullah widening problems in the meeting. According to the MPs, water supply issues tops the litany of woes that need to be solved immediately.
Anushakti Nagar MLA Nawab Malik from the NCP said, “I have written 42 letters so far to the BMC regarding civic problems in my constituency, but the BMC has done little to attend to them. My constituency has been facing water supply problems since several years. I have also asked the civic body to open a medical college at Shatabdi Hospital, Govandi, as it will immensely help in catering to the health problems of the growing population in eastern suburbs. There is also an urgent need of flyovers in Mankhurd area. I have asked the BMC to look into these demands on immediate basis,” said.
Congress MP Sanjay Nirupam said, “The BMC should be blamed for failing to provide even basic amenities to citizens. The water contamination issue has been frequently plaguing the residents of western suburbs, but it has not been resolved.”
Mr Kunte has assured the MPs and MLAs that the civic issues will be solved on priority basis. “The civic officials have been asked to give priority to problems which can be resolved immediately. Directions have been issued to them to take care of other pending issues in a stipulated period,” he said.
