Crime branch keen to probe Fasih
Lashkar-e-Tayyaba’s Fasih Mahmood, who is likely to be deported from Saudi Arabia to India, doesn’t have a single case against him in Maharashtra, but senior officers of the crime branch are still keen on interrogating him.
Sources said that his interrogation will be vital as he had recruited youth into Indian Mujahideen from across the country. Sources pointed out that since IM was active in Maharashtra and its big module was busted from within the state, Fasih’s interrogation will help them figure out the outfit’s future strategies.
Fasih, a 28-year-old engineer from Bihar, who has been detained in Saudi Arabia since May this year, is likely to be handed over to India despite Pakistan claiming that he is their national. He is accused in Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy stadium blast and the firing outside Jama Masjid in Delhi.
The CBI had issued a red corner notice against Fasih, who hails from Darbhanga in Bihar, on May 30. In the notice, it was stated that Fasih’s name figured during interrogation of some of the arrested IM operatives.
“Fasih is not wanted in any case registered with us. But we are keen on interrogating him once he is brought to the country. He is believed to be involved in recruiting youth into terrorism. Since his name was spilled by the IM operatives, his interrogation will be important,” said a senior crime branch officer, requesting anonymity.
