Customs arrests man with 1 kg cocaine in stomach

The customs officials on Friday arrested a Ghana national at Mumbai’s international airport for allegedly trying to smuggle in 1 kg of cocaine — collectively worth `1 crore — into the city.
According to assistant commissioner of Customs, Rishi Yadav, the accused had filled the cocaine in 76 capsules, which were found in his stomach at the time of his arrest. The cocaine is said to be bought from Latin Americans.
The accused has only been identified as Mubarak, who as per his passport details, has come to the city for the first time.
Mubarak left Brazil and landed in Dubai, from where he took another flight to Mumbai, reaching at 8.30 am.
Mubarak was stopped by air intelligence unit, that during his X-ray screening, spotted a lot of capsules in his stomach.
Mubarak broke down and confessed thereafter. Using him, the Customs officials have also arrested another accused from the city, who was to help Mubarak in circulating the drugs.
He has been admitted to JJ Hospital and nine capsules have been recovered from his excreta. The capsules were filled with cocaine.

BMC PROMISES TO EMPOWER WOMEN
Mumbai: In an attempt to empower women, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) would try to form a bank for women’s savings groups, mayor Sunil Prabhu said.
The civic body will unanimously pass a resolution in this regard and send it to the state and central government for approval, he added.
The BMC, under its women and child welfare schemes, has organised an exhibition of various goods produced by the women’s savings groups at Borivali (west).
Inaugurating the exhibition, the mayor said the civic body has also given priority to women’s savings groups in the Clean-Up Mumbai drive and efforts are being made to keep shops reserved for them in municipal markets.
State BJP president Ashish Shelar and deputy mayor Mohan Mithbavkar were also present on this occasion.
