Customs seizes drugs worth `7.5cr
In another major drug bust at the Mumbai international airport,Customs officials seized narcotics worth `7.5 crore, following the arrest of a 22-year-old Mozambique national who was attempting to smuggle them out of the country. Officials from the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) seized 15 kilograms of methaqualone from her bag-
gage.
Catia Daclesa Francisco was slated to board a Kenyan Airways flight to Gaborone in the Republic of Botswana, via Nairobi, when officials spotted her at around 1 am. “A white-coloured crystalline substance was found in her baggage, which was later revealed to be methaqualone. She confessed to carrying the drug and was subsequently placed under arrest. She was charged under several sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act,” said assistant commissioner Rishi Yadav.

Key bookie in ipl betting scandal arrested

The Mumbai crime branch arrested one of the key bookies in connection with the IPL betting scandal on Wednesday. The total number of arrested accused is now 21.
Motiram Modi alias Badri was arrested from Sujangarh, near Jaipur, on Wednesday following a tip-off, and was brought to Mumbai.
“Badri was using nine phone lines to talk to bookies operating from Pakistan during IPL matches. These lines were provided to him by bookie Ramesh Vyas, who in total provided 30 phone lines, through call conferencing, to bookies operating from Pakistan and Dubai,” said a crime branch official. Another officer added that many big bookies from Pakistan and India used to place bets with Badri.
Badri has a record of betting in Rajasthan, but has never been arrested in Mumbai before.
