Dengue cases on rise in Goregaon, BMC denies
More than 25 dengue cases have been reported in Shastri Nagar in Goregoan in the last fortnight. The worst-hit is the Pujari family residing in building number 25 of Shastri Nagar, of which all four members, including two children, have tested positive for dengue.
Last week, Malikka Pujari, 32, and her husband Satish, 42, were discharged from Kapadia Hospital and Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital respectively after undergoing anti-dengue treatment. “My 13-year-old son and seven-year-old daughter have also tested positive for dengue. I had to leave my children at a friend’s house. Our platelet count had dropped to 80,000,” said Ms Pujari.
The seventh floor of the said building, which houses four flats, has six dengue positive patients, claimed residents of Shastri Nagar. Pujaris’ neighbour, Nandu Velhal, 63, was admitted for 11 days at Kapadia Hospital in Goregoan.
Another resident of the building, Nalini Patil, 43, also was diagnosed with dengue and treated at Kapadia Hospital.
Meanwhile, the BMC did not acknowledge any spurt of dengue cases in Shashtri Nagar as the locals have claimed. “There is absolutely no outbreak of dengue in Shashtri Nagar. There were just five cases, in private hospitals, and those too were suspected dengue cases. They tested positive in Rapid Dengue Test, which is not a confirmatory test for dengue,” said Dr Mangla Gomare, chief epidemiologist, BMC.
However, Dr Devidas Sheregar, senior physician from the area who is attached to the Kapadia Hospital, said that 20 patients from the area were admitted under him since the past two weeks.
