Developer held in Lohariya murder
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Wednesday arrested Sumeet Ganpat Bachchewar (41), a developer from New Mumbai in the murder case of builder Sunil Kumar Lohariya.
The police claims that Bachchewar, who is the fourth to be arrested in the case, was involved in the conspiracy hatched to kill Lohariya. Meanwhile, the investigation of the arrested accused revealed that ex-encounter specialist Emmanuel Amolik gave shooter Vishwakarma Shettiar `2 lakh as supari to eliminate Lohariya.
According to the police, Vashi resident Bachchewar is a real estate agent and developer. His firm Bachchewar Enterprise’s office is at Embassy Court, Sector-19 in New Mumbai.
A senior crime branch officer on Wednesday said, “Bachchewar is an associate of builder Suresh Bijlani, who is the key player in the Lohariya murder case and is absconding. During our probe we learnt that Bachchewar has a vital role in the conspiracy hatched to eliminate Lohariya, so we arrested him from Navi Mumbai. He was remanded to police custody up to February 4, after which he was produced in a local court on Wednesday.”
During investigation, the police learnt that Amolik had promised to give Shettiar `2 lakh as supari. He even paid him `15,000 and `10,000 on two instances.
Shettiar had reportedly told interrogators that the weapon used in the crime belonged to him and that he had buried it in a secluded land before he was arrested in a criminal case in the year 2001. He claimed the gun in 2006 after his release from jail. He also told investigators that he wanted to conduct the last rites of Lohariya, which is why he carried along a garland and a coconut on the fateful day.
