DMER chief gets notice on quota issue

Medical education and drugs department has sent a showcause notice to the director of medical education and research, Dr Pravin Shingare for having misled the state government and Medical Council of India (MCI) on the issue of quota for minorities. Dr Shingare has been given time till Friday to clarify his stand.
In November 2011, minorities minister Mohammed Arif Naseem Khan, in a meeting with secretary of medical education and drugs department, I.S. Chahal and Dr Shingare, had asked if it was possible to reserve certain seats or to start a second shift in all the 14 government medical colleges. Dr Shingare had said that both the options were not feasible.
However, on February 1, 2012, Dr Shingare wrote to the MCI, proposing additional 50 seats each in all the 14 government medical colleges.
When Dr Shingare was contacted he said that he was unaware about the issue.

SRK fracas: Kunder trending too
Age Correspondent
Mumbai, May 17

Apart from actor Shah Rukh Khan, Wankhede stadium and the Mumbai Cricket Association were trending on Twitter after Wednesday night’s brawl. Surprisingly, Shirish Kunder — who was slapped by Khan a few months ago — also started trending after the incident.
Khan came in for some tweet-bashing for picking on soft targets, with one user tweeting, “#SRK sure knows whom to pick upon - Shirish Kunder, poor security guards. Why don’t you pick on someone your size and status dear SRK?”
Another tweet read, “Lol!@Joydas: Again SRK MaRa.1. Guess like Shirish Kunder, the security guards will come to his house to apologise tomorrow”
Some were caustic about Kunder, who had apologised to Khan the day after he was slapped. A tweet read, “The security guard who fought with Shah Rukh Khan ...was apparently more Manly than ShiRish Kunder ... #srk” Predictably, SRK fans backed the actor up too. “You know what’ll be cool? If Shah Rukh Khan buys the Wankhede Stadium and throws out these sanctimonious MCA trolls,” a tweeter said.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
