Don’t put your winter wear away, yet

Mumbai has witnessed a second dip in temperature with the minimum touching 13 degrees Celsius. This is the fourth lowest temperature in the month of February in Mumbai in the last 10 years.
The weather officials had earlier predicted a sudden drop in temperature after the city experienced April, May-like temperatures last week.
The night-time temperature recorded in Colaba was 18.8 degrees Celsius — more than a degree below normal, while in Santa Cruz it was 13.2 degrees Celsius — five degrees below normal. Apart from the low temperatures, the winds coming from the north are responsible for contributing to the increased nip in the air, said the Met department.
The weather is likely to remain similar to that of Monday for a day or two, said the weather bureau.
“For Tuesday, we have predicted that the minimum temperature is likely to rise up by a degree and remain near 14 degrees Celsius for another day,” said V.K. Rajeev, director of weather forecast at IMD.
However, there might be another cold wave in the city. “Another Western Disturbance is likely to hit Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday or Thursday. Depending upon which direction it takes, there may be another dip in the temperatures over the weekend,” said Mr Rajeev.
The lowest ever February temperature was in the year 2008, when the temperature in the city had dipped to 8.5 degrees Celsius. Last year, the temperature had dipped to as low as 8.8 degrees Celsius on February 9, and on February 22, 2005, the temperature was 11.9 degree sCelsius. According to the Met department, the cold weather in the north had prevailed because of the persistent Western Disturbance affecting Rajasthan. “The Western Disturbance has now moved away, but the cold winds continue to prevail in the city,” said N.Y. Apte, deputy director general of Indian Meteorological Department, Mumbai.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.
