DPRs invited for three bridges
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has invited agencies to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for three proposed bridges. These bridges have been planned at University Junction, Bandra-Kurla Junction and near Mithi River. All three of them are to complement and regulate the flow of traffic from Santa Cruz-Chembur Link Road (SCLR), a much delayed project launched in 2003, and now expected to be completed by the end of this year.
Two of the proposed bridges, one from Bandra-Kurla Link Road to CST Junction and the other from Hans Burga Marg to CST Marg will be new bridges and the third is an existing 40-metre-long and 30-metre-wide bridge (CST Bridge), which is set to be remodeled to a length of 100 metres and width of 45 metres.
The 6.45-km SCLR, which will provide east-west connectivity in the city, is being constructed as part of the World Bank-funded Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP). One of the most delayed projects of Mumbai, it was scheduled to be completed in 2008, but due to various constraints, is still stuck.
Experts feel that it may still take another year to be fully operational.
However, the MMRDA has said in a press release that the tender documents will be available for the eligible consultants in the office up to September 18. They can be submitted by September 20, 2013.
