DRI won’t seek Koduskar’s arrest
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), which had filed a chargesheet against Abhijeet Konduskar, the owner of Kumud Drugs and scion of Konduskar travels, in a drugs case in September 2011, on Friday informed the court that they wouldn’t be arresting the accused in the case.
In a written reply to the Thane court, the DRI claimed that Konduskar’s “arrest would not serve any purpose, as he is already behind bars in the Ahmedabad drug peddling case”. The chargesheet that was filed by the DRI in September 2011 before the Thane special NDPS court, had charged Konduskar and four employees Nilesh Mehta, Sandeep Ahire, Vikas Mandal and Jayanthilal Kothari for allegedly trafficking banned drug ketamine in the country. After the chargesheet was filed in the case, the accused had applied for bail. A temporary bail was granted by the Thane sessions court a few months ago. However, the DRI has now said that they would not be arresting the accused in the case.
DRI counsel advocate Francis Saldanha said, “As the accused are already behind bars in the Ahmedabad drug peddling case, seeking their arrest in this case, won’t serve any purpose. However, the prosecution will continue with the trial in the case.”
In April 2011, the DRI had received a tip-off that a transport company was about to move 11 drums of the ketamine drug, which was allegedly sent by Konduskar to Chennai from the Navi Mumbai-based transport office.
