Drunk driver hits senior citizen

A 25-year-old woman driving under the influence of alcohol, rammed her car into a senior citizen on Saturday, who escaped with minor injuries.
According to the D.N Nagar police, the accident took place at around 10.30 am when the accused, Shilpa Sodha crashed her car into the 63-year-old victim’s car. Lawrence Pereira had parked his car in front of a church along the N Dutta Road in the Four Bungalows area in Andheri (west).
“According to Mr Pereira’s statement he was standing next to the trunk of his Hyundai i20 car. The accused came in her Honda Civic car and rammed into him from the rear. Mr Pereira sustained minor injuries on his lower back,” a police official said.
“He was rushed to Cooper Hospital where he was provided adequate treatment and discharged later in the day. We have taken her blood samples and her medical report is awaited. Her preliminary medical report cleared that she was under the influence of alcohol,” added the official.
Later, alert passersby contacted the police control room. The police reached the spot in time and nabbed Ms Sodha, a resident of Andheri (west). She was taken to the police station where a case of rash and negligent driving, causing hurt and endangering life was registered under different sections of the IPC and the Motor Vehicles Act for driving under the influence of alcohol.
