Drunk man rams car into truck
A 33-year-old man, under the influence of alcohol, rammed his Maruti Swift into a parked truck on Carter Road in Khar (west) in the early hours of Sunday, injuring three of his friends. One of the injured is a foreign national who was seated in the car and suffered fractures. The accused was let off on bail.
According to the Khar police, the accident took place at around 3 am in front of the Hindu crematorium along Carter Road in the Khar Danda area. The drunk driver of the Maruti Swift has been identified as Snehal Damodar, who lives in a locality near 28th road in Bandra (west). Damodar works with a private airline and was returning with his friends after a late night party.
“Snehal lost control over the wheels due to which the accident took place. The preliminary report revealed that he was under the influence of alcohol,” said investigating officer, sub-inspector Prashant More of Khar police station.
A police van patrolling the area heard the noise and rushed to the spot. They were first admitted to Bhabha Hospital and subsequently shifted to Lilawati Hospital.
While Damodar escaped unscathed, his friends Pradnesh, Meenakshi and Caron suffered fractures. While Pradnesh (29) suffered 12 stitches on his left hand, Meenakshi suffered fractures on her left hand and leg and Caron suffered fracture on her left hand. Caron is a resident of Dubai.
Snehal was booked under Section 279 (rash driving), 337 (endangering life), 338 (grievous hurt) of the IPC and under Section 185 (driving by a drunken person) of the Motor Vehicles Act. He received surety bail from the police station within hours.
