EOW gives clean chit to studio
The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the city police has given a clean chit to a city-based studio accused of cheating HSBC of `330 crore. The agency has filed a closure report in the court .
HSBC, in its April complaint, had alleged that Avitel Post Studioz Limited secured an investment of `330 crore by wrongly claiming it had a tie up with the UK media giant Briitsh Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) and required upgrade of all its studios, equipment and library. Additional CP Rajwardhan confirmed the development but refused to give further details.
An officer from the agency said, “According to the HSBC complaint, Avitel had raised the funds to upgrade their library from 2D to 3D, which was a requirement in the BBC contract. However, we saw there was no mention of BBC in the contract between HSBC and Avitel
before the investment. It is largely a case of miscommunication between the two firms and having an incomplete contract. There was no element of criminal cheating in the case .”
