Mumbai, March 1

Two separate cases of dowry harassment were registered at Vinobha Bhave Nagar and Mahim on Friday. The former also includes a murder charge since the girl was found dead after which her family accused her in-laws of killing her. Five people were arrested in connection with the same.
Sana Khan, (24), was found hanging in a room at her in-laws’ house a few days ago. “The girl’s family then alleged dowry harassment and foul play. We registered a case of dowry harassment and murder. We arrested five people, including her in-laws and husband, and they are in police custody,” said senior police inspector Subhash Raut from VB Nagar police station.
Reportedly, Sana’s husband Gyasuddin Niyazali Khan, (31), with his parents demanded money and even physically abused her. “The post-mortem report concluded death by strangulation after which we registered a case. The viscera has been preserved for examination,” said Mr Raut. The police arrested Gyasuddin, his mother Aslam Khan (55), her husband Niyazali (73), Waqar Khan (21) and Shahjahan (48).
In Mahim, four of a family were booked for reportedly harassing Daniya Zaheer Shah (28). The Mahim police registered a case under domestic violence and dowry on Friday. The victim’s husband Zaheer Shah (30), and her in-laws — Razzaq Shah (60), Rashida Razzaq (52) — were booked .
