Even crackdown didn’t deter Pawan

Sandeep Chhabra alias Pawan Jaipur, the wanted accused in the Indian Premier League betting scandal, had been collecting vital information from Chennai Super Kings team principal Gurunath Meiyappan through Vindoo Dara Singh even after fleeing to Dubai following the police crackdown. It has been mentioned in the Mumbai police chargesheet filed on Saturday that in the recorded conversation between Vindoo and Pawan when the latter was in Dubai, Pawan asked Vindoo to collect information about a CSK match from Meiyappan.
In the 11,609-page chargesheet, the police has stated that after they down heavily on bookies involved in betting, Pawan Jaipur and his brother Sanjay Jaipur fled to Dubai with the help of actor-cum-bookie Vindoo.
“While in Dubai, on May 18 Pawan made a phone call to Vindoo at 22:03:58 and asked him to inquire with Meiyappan whether the match on the same day between the Royal Challengers Bangalore and CSK would be played or not, as it rained that day,” the police alleged in the chargesheet, claiming that it has the recording of this conversation as evidence.
Earlier, a senior crime branch officer said, “Before escaping the country, the Jaipur brothers left their three cellphones with Vindoo, which were later seized after the actor was arrested,” Since their return to Mumbai, both moved the Bombay high court for anticipatory bail, which was rejected, but the court gave them interim relief from police arrest till September 30 to move the Supreme Court for the same. Jaipur brothers are the owners of the Rajsthan-based Motison Jewellers, who were allegedly in contact with Vindoo, Asad Rauf and other bookies for betting, collecting vital team information for betting. They allegedly also gave Rauf expensive gifts and other valuables.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
