Ex-ACP duped by travel agent of 4L
A retired assistant commissioner of police (ACP), Kader Khan, has filed a complaint with the Azad Maidan police, and accused a travel agent of cheating him and his family to the tune of `4 lakh. The police has registered a case against the travel agent who is currently on the run.
According to Mr Khan, he had approached the accused Rehan Faqi Abdul Rashid Hajate in February this year for organising the religious tour Umrah, to Medina in Saudi Arabia. The accused had taken `4.70 lakh from him along with 13 passports of his family members, but later began avoiding their calls. Hajate owns the Al-Muqaddas Tours and Travels Company with other offices at Haddi Naka in Bhiwandi and Kambhekar Street in Dongri.
Mr Khan also accused Hajate of duping 240 other persons on the pretext of sending them to Saudi Arabia. “We are not his only victims as there are several others, whom he has cheated this way. He has taken more than `1 crore from unsuspecting people,” he said. The former policeman, who lives in the Masjid Bunder area, finally approached the police on Sunday, which registered a case under Section 406 (criminal breach of trust) of the IPC.
