Ex-Army chief v.k. singh meets Anna hazare

The nationwide movement for Jan Lokpal seems to be gathering steam as renowned public figures have started meeting social activist Anna Hazare at Ralegan Siddhi.
While, former Army chief General V.K. Singh met Mr Hazare and enquired about his health on Thursday, Kiran Bedi will meet him on Friday. The anti-corruption crusader on Wednesday had announced the beginning of his 18-month nationwide tour from Patna in January 2013.
“General Singh met Hazare to enquire about his health and to discuss the further course of action for the Jan Lokpal movement. Ms Bedi will meet him on Friday. Former IAS officer Avinash Dharmadhikari and RTI activist from Pune, Vishwambhar Choudhary will also meet Anna,” said close aide of Mr Hazare, Datta Aawari from Ralegan Siddhi.
However, there was no reaction from the social activist on allegations made by retired IPS officer and lawyer-activist Y.P. Singh who had said that Anna announced an agitation against Lavasa but later chose to keep mum on it.

City gets 1,000 complaint boxes
Age Correspondent
Mumbai, Oct. 18

Inaugurating the complaints/suggestions box scheme meant for citizens to connect with the Mumbai police on Thursday evening, home minister R.R. Patil said that the identity of people giving information against criminal activities will be kept secret and they will also be rewarded from the secret fund of the police.
Over 1,000 such boxes will now be installed across the city and the police will be asked to register FIRs based on cognisable complaints.
Mr Patil said that the Janta darbar initiated at police station and the senior citizen meetings by the police will be made a permanent feature and a resolution to that effect will be passed soon. He further said that visits to senior citizens by the police will also be implemented phase wise of other major cities in the state.
“Law abiding citizens should not fear to visit a police station. If a complaint of a serious nature is found in the boxes, an FIR should be registered,” he said.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
