Extra flats to brew trouble
Chief minister Prithviraj Chavan on Tuesday assured the legislative council that an inquiry would be conducted against persons, including politicians and bureaucrats, who have acquired more than one flat in Mumbai under the government quota. The commission probing the Adarsh scam will be asked to carry out the investigation.
The CM was replying to a question asked by the Opposition leader Vinod Tawde. Participating in the discussion on notices issued to developers under the Urban Land Sealing Act, Mr Tawde pointed out that there are some bureaucrats and politicians who have misused their position and acquired more than one flat from the government quota in their or their relative’s name. He also demanded that action be taken against them.
Admitting that some people including politicians, IAS and IPS officers were misusing their positions to acquire flats, the CM said, “An inquiry will be conducted in this regard by the commission probing the Adarsh scam,
after that probe gis completed.”
Mr Tawde had also asked the CM if it was true that 35 developers had been served notices under the Urban Land Sealing Act for not handing over the flat to the government. The CM informed that the government has not received possession of 847 flats from 23 developers, because of which notices were issued to them.
“Criminal proceedings against the developers who sold the flats meant for government, have been initiated. The action to recover the government’s revenue losses is also on,” the CM said.
