Fatal Palm Beach Road claims 2 more lives
Palm Beach Road, which is infamous for the frequent and often fatal
accidents that occur on it, claimed two more lives on Sunday night,
after a motorcycle lost control and collided with the divider.
The incident occurred at around 8.30 pm near the NRI Society on
Sunday. Navi Mumbai resident Aadesh Singh (21) was dropping his friend
Divya Surti (20) at her residence in Sector 36, Navi Mumbai when the
accident took place.
“Aadesh lost control of his Yamaha motorcycle and veered straight
towards the divider. As the motorcycle was travelling at a very high
speed, the impact of the collision sent it flying in the air. Both
riders landed on the ground hard, sustaining several serious injuries
in the process,” said an officer with the NRI police.
Passing motorists immediately stopped and rushed forward to help. Both
Aadesh and Divya were rushed to a private hospital near the NRI
complex, where they were declared dead before admission, the police
said.
“Medical tests have confirmed that Aadesh was not drunk at the time of
the incident. He was not wearing a helmet, and could have been saved
if he had worn one,” said Suresh Vedak, senior police inspector, NRI
police station.
The police has not been able to gather personal details about the duo
as yet. The families of both the deceased are in a state of shock and
not in a position to give detailed statements. The police is waiting
for the final rites, after which further inquiries will be made.
“We have registered accidental death reports for both Aadesh and
Divya,” Mr Vedak added.
