Father moves HC, seeks CBI probe

Laila Khan’s father Nadir Patel moved the Bombay high court on Tuesday seeking transfer of her murder case to the CBI from the crime branch. Mr Patel in his petition alleged that both the local police and crime branch had not investigated the case properly despite the missing complaint of all the six family members he filed more than a year ago.
“I have filed a petition in the court as I do not trust the crime branch. They have carelessly investigated the case till now and are just relying on Parvez Tak’s statements, who also was arrested by J&K police. So they have not done anything substantial in the case,” said Mr Patel.
He said that an officer with whom he had filed a missing complaint has been posted in the crime branch now and is investigating the case. “I do not trust the officer because he did not act on the missing complaint. I can only imagine disaster if he is handed over this case too,” he said.
According to Mr Patel, action should also be taken against senior officers of both the Mumbai police and the Nashik rural police. “The Nashik police ignored me and the Mumbai police took over a year to establish that all of them were murdered. I have lost my daughter because of the lethargy shown by the police and they should be pulled up,” he said.
The crime branch had last week claimed to have cracked the mystery behind the family’s disappearance last year, with the recovery of six skeletons believed to be those of Laila and her family members at the family farmhouse in Igatpuri.
