Flyover to link Bandra Terminus to highway?
In order to improve road infrastructure and connectivity, Mah-arashtra State Road Development Corpo-ration has planned to connect Bandra Term-inus and the Western Express Highway, with a flyover. “In a meeting between officials from the Western Railway, MSRDC and chief secretary, it was decided that we will construct the flyover on behalf of the railways (sic),” said Bipin Shrimali, managing director and vice-chairman of the MSRDC.
As per the plans, the flyover — stretching around 1.5 km — will start from Bandra Terminus to bypass the Kherwadi Junction and will eventually land on the Western Express Highway. The proposal is part of the plan to have an integrated design for the railway terminus.“Bandra Ter-minus is being developed in a big way with more trains starting and terminating here; traffic is bound to increase in the coming years, thus highlighting the need for proper access roads,” added Mr Shrimali.
The MSRDC authorities have already ordered to conduct a feasibility study for the project. Mr Shrimali said that the Railways will finance the flyover project. “They have already paid a deposit amount to the MSRDC to initiate the initial work for the four-lane bridge (two lanes in either direction),” he said.
The MSRDC is yet to finalise the estimated cost of the flyover.
