Foeticide raid: Doc, 4 clients held in Nashik
Health department officials continued to raid and check sonography and abortion clinics in Nashik division; a doctor and her four clients were also arrested and remanded to police custody till June 12 in Dhule district.
The police said that Dr Payal Sudhir Singhvi of Singhvi Hospital in Dhule on January 9, 2012, allegedly aborted a five-and-a-half month female foetus. After getting information, a case was filed on Thursday by Dhule’s resident medical officer, Dr Charudatta Shinde. Dr Singhvi and her clients — Pratibha Dnyaneshwar Patil, Dharamdas Patil and Asha Patil —were then arrested and the court remanded them to police custody.
The scare continued in Jalgaon, and 10 doctors voluntarily surrendered their sonography equipment to the RMO, Dr Suresh Wani, while six other clinics were sealed. Jalgaon chief medical officer Dr Nirmala Sharma said, “A notice will be sent to a cardiac centre which has sonography equipment. The clinic had not filed its report with the administration.”
In the Nashik district, 116 abortion centres were inspected, eight sealed while cancellation notices were sent to 57 centres.
