Gangrape accused greeted with eggs outside court
Women protesters hurled eggs at the three accused in the photojournalist gangrape case outside a magistrate court on Friday. Meanwhile, the court has extended police custody of the trio up to September 5.
The women, claiming to be members of a political party, shouted slogans and demanded that the alleged rapists be hanged. Siraz Khan, Vijay Jadhav and Kasim Shaikh alias Kasim Bangali faced the wrath of these women, who hurled eggs at them while they were being escorted to a police van after being produced before the court. A few women had already started hurling eggs from the first floor of the court while the accused were being escorted downstairs.
“The trial should be conducted in a fasttrack court and we demand death penalty for all the accused. They should be given the harshest of punishments,” said one of the protesters, Amruta Pawar.
The custody of the accused was extended after the crime branch told the court that they were yet to recover some clothes of the accused and therefore their remand was required. Accused, Salim Ansari is already in police custody till September 5.

Dabholkar murder: London lab to process CCTV images
Age Correspondent
Mumbai, Aug. 30
With no breakthrough in the Dr Narendra Dabholkar murder case and the sole clue — CCTV footage of the killers — turning out to be blurry, the Pune police has decided to send the clipping to a London-based laboratory specialising in video and digital analysis.
The bike-borne shooters were captured in the camera outside Cosmos Bank on the morning of the murder when they were riding away after gunning down the 69-year-old anti-superstition activist.
Additional commissioner of police (crime) Shahaji Solunke said, “The grab blurs when we try to zoom in to identify the killers’ faces. We have, therefore, decided to take assistance of the London-based lab which possesses technology that can enhance the picture quality.” Investigators had also hoped to find other CCTV cameras of shops in Shaniwar Peth that would be facing the road. “We had also prepared a sketch of the accused based on eyewitness descriptions, but sketches are less than 60 per cent accurate on most occasions,” said another officer. The assailants were captured in the camera when they took a left at Omkareshwar Bridge and headed towards Shaniwar Peth.
