Gangster hides firearm in holy book, arrested

The Mumbai crime branch has arrested an aide of a gangster belonging to the Chhota Rajan gang, who had come to supply firearms to another gang member at Bandra Bandstand on Saturday.
To escape the police, the accused had concealed the firearms in a copy of the Bhagwad Gita by making a cavity inside. The police has recovered two country-made revolvers and 11 live rounds that were concealed in the holy book.
According to the police, Unit-7 of the crime branch had recently received a tip-off that a man would come to Bandra Bandstand on Saturday to supply weapons to a gang member, who was wanted by the Thane police in a firing case. Subsequently, three teams of policemen led by senior PI Vyankat Patil, Sanjay Surve, API Anil Dhole and their staff laid a trap near the Virmata
Jijabai Bhosale garden, and detained one person who was later identified as Sanjay Bhagwan Choudhary (37), a resident of Bandra (west).
“Choudhary was carrying a plastic bag which contained a shoebox. When this box was opened, the Bhagwad Gita was found. Two revolvers and live rounds were concealed in a cavity made inside the holy book,” said Ambadas Pote, DCP (detection-1).
Choudhary’s interrogation revealed that he had come to deliver the weapon to one Rajesh Mhadik, who is affiliated to the Chhota Rajan gang.
“Mhadik is a wanted accused in last year’s firing incident at Mumbra. That incident had taken place in July, and the Thane police crime branch has invoked MCOCA in the case. During the probe, Choudhary claimed that Mhadik had given him the fire arm sometime ago to keep it safe, and now wanted to collect it from him”, Mr Pote said, adding, “We are still making inquiries regarding the purpose for which Mhadik wanted the weapon from Choudhary.”
Choudhary has been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Arms Act.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
