Give info on bail bonds: HC
The Bombay high court on Monday asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to get back after two weeks with information on the inventory of over four lakh bail bonds that were supplied to the Railway Protection Force (RPF). The court was acting on activist Samir Zaveri’s PIL that sought inquiry into RPF officials using bogus bail bonds and extorting money from passengers.
A division bench of Justice P.V. Hardas and Justice P.N. Desh-mukh was hearing a PIL filed by Mr Zaveri in 2010. The petition pertains to the “bail bond scam”, where the police personnel had used fake bail bonds and extorted money from several commuters. The petition alleges that bail bonds — form no. 45 from 009001 to 4,20,000 — were supplied to the RPF and information was sought about these bail bonds. According to the petition, office of the RPF informed that the said record was “destroyed in fire”.
