Govt staff recruitment exam made more user-friendly
To boost the declining applications for the Staff Selection Commission examination, the Govern-ment of India has made the application filling-up process more user-friendly.
Mumbai chairman of the Staff Selection Comm-ission, N.K. Raghupathy said, “The commission has been conducting examinations for Group B and Group C non-technical posts in various ministries and departments and their subordinate offices all over the country. However, due to the conventional procedure and lack of awareness on how to apply for the said post, the response from Maharashtra, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh was very poor last year.”
Elaborating on the efforts taken by the commission to improve the methodology of the examination, Mr Raghupathy said that candidates can now give their examination in their regional languages.
“Often, candidates are not confident about writing the examination in English. Now, they can write the examination and also give their interview in their regional languages.”
Further, as the selection process has been computerised, candidates will now be appointed from their regional centres. “The five centres for examination in the western region of the state are Mumbai-Pune, Nagpur, Nashik, Amravati and Aurangabad,” Mr Raghupathy said.
The commission has also managed to stem the decline in applications. In 2009-10, a total of 83,318 applications were received from the western region for various posts; out of these, only 478 were selected. In 2011-12, the applications increased manifold to 5,53,511, and around 6,000 applicants were selected.
Commenting on the efforts taken by the commission to improve the number of applications, Mr Raghupathy said, “With continuous awareness programmes, the commission has managed to moderately attract candidate attention towards the recruitment process...I urge people to make use of the commission for seeking employment.”
