BMC to hold back consultant’s dues
AGE CORRESPONDENT
Mumbai, Sept. 24
The BMC on Monday decided to conduct an inquiry into the error by a consultant, while calculating the estimated certified emission reduction (CER) that would be earned with the closure of the Gorai dumping ground.
In Monday’s standing committee meeting, officials proposed buying CERs from the open market. A total of 4.26 lakh CERs, worth `15 crore would be required by the BMC to return to the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The other decision was to hold back the payment of the consultant, who goofed-up on the calculation, till the report is submitted. Additional municipal commissioner Mohan Adtani said, “An inquiry will be conducted; the course of action will be decided later. In the meantime, the civic body will not release the consultant’s dues.” The BMC had appointed consultants IL&FS in 2008 to study the amount of emissions after the scientific closure of the Gorai dumping ground. Based on the calculations, the BMC was supposed to generate 2.74 lakh CERs.
