Harassed by husband, housewife kills self
A 32-year-old housewife committed suicide by consuming pesticides in front of her 14-year old daughter in Chira Bazaar area on Sunday evening. The woman was in acute depression, as her alcoholic husband would beat her almost every day. The police has arrested the husband on the charges of harassment and abetment of suicide.
The deceased, identified as Shobha Shirshekar, consumed pesticides on Sunday at around 6 pm in her house located in JK Building, Chira Bazaar, Gamdevi. “When she consumed poison her daughter was at home and tried to stop her mother, but failed. She then informed her maternal grandmother over the phone and an unconscious Shobha was taken to Saifi Hospital, where she died in the night. Her body was later sent to JJ Hospital for post-mortem,” said an officer.
Her husband, Mahendra Shirshekar (38) was arrested on Monday. “The couple had a love marriage in the year 1999 and had a daughter and an eight-year-old son. Mahendra started harassing her in 2005. Shobha had even complained against him in the Social Service Branch of the Mumbai police in the year 2011,” said Sanjeevrao Mandalik, senior inspector of LT Marg police station.

Bread seller found murdered
AGE CORRESPONDENT
Mumbai, July 15
A 55-year-old bread seller was found murdered, with a brutal cut around his neck at his residence in a chawl at Bandra (east) early on Monday morning. Prima facie, robbery has been ruled out and the neck injury, police said, was so deep that the head was on the verge of getting dislodged from the body, which suggests that the murderer might have had a personal enmity with the deceased.
According to the Kherwadi police, the murder came to light at around 7 am when the deceased, Bharat Sitaram Panjiyara, was seen lying in a pool of blood at his residence by his colleague who had come to wake him up to start with their day’s work of selling bread. Panjiyara was living alone in Nyaneshwar Nagar, Durga Chawl committee Gulli no. 54. “He is a native of Jharkhand and sells bread for a living. We have sent the body to Cooper Hospital for an autopsy,” said senior police inspector Ashok P. Kadam of Kherwadi police station.
