HC gives nod to e-meters in autorickshaws
The Bombay high court on Saturday dismissed a petition demanding squashing of the notification issued by the Maharashtra government, making electronic meters compulsory in old autorickshaws in the city and state from April 1. The notification was challenged by the Mumbai Autorickshawmen’s Union with leader Sharad Rao alleging that these meters could be tampered with.
However, squashing the petition, Justice P.B. Majmudar and Justice R.D. Dhanuka observed, “We cannot restrain the state from implementing the decision, just because it is causing hardships to a few individuals.”
Expressing his dissatisfaction with the order, Mr Rao said that the union would appeal in the Supreme Court.
