HC nod for festive parking
The Bombay high court on Thursday gave conditional approval to BMC’s plea to allow parking of vehicles in demarcated areas at Shivaji Park in Dadar for three days during the Ganesh festival. However, a division bench headed by Justice D.Y. Chandrachud asked the police and civic authorities to ensure that that the playground is restored to its original state. The court allowed parking of vehicles at the grounds on September 13, 15 and 18 — the fifth, seventh and tenth day of immersion of Ganpati idols in the sea.
The bench has asked the Mumbai CP and the municipal commissioner to give a separate undertaking that they would earmark the area at Shivaji Park where parking would be allowed and also mention in the undertakings that they would restore the ground within a week and not allow the cricket pitches to be damaged.
