Hiding Naxal arrested in city
Mumbai crime branch officials have arrested a suspected Naxal from the Mulund area on Friday night, in a joint operation with the Jharkhand police. Pintu Jawahar Paswan is seen as a prized catch by the Mumbai police, as he was involved in a couple of big Maoist operations in Jharkhand, including the one in which 10 CRPF jawans were killed in January. Paswan had been hiding in the city for over a month, working as a carpenter at a construction site, the police said.
Crime Intelligence Unit officials had received information about a suspected Naxal some time ago. After verifying it with their counterparts in Jharkhand, the Mumbai police called their investigators for operations to the city. The CIU team, headed by P.I. Ajay Sawant, along with policemen from Jharkhand, nabbed Paswan (23) from the Mulund Check Naka area.
DCP (detection) Satyanarayan Choudhary said, “Paswan had come to the city to hide from the police and was working as carpenter at a construction site in Mulund. The Jharkhand police took his custody and left the city Friday night.” “Naxalites blew up Utkramik Madhyavarti Vidyalaya at Satvayani village on October 1, 2008 as they suspected that policemen involved in anti-Maoist operations were using it to take rest in the night. The police arrested five to six Maoists then, but Paswan managed to evade arrest. He was allegedly involved in planting the bomb,” a crime branch officer said. He used to train new recruits in bomb-making and planting landmines. He learnt this from other senior Maoist members in the Dalam, the officer added.
