Honest cops return bag of cash
A team of the Kurla railway police has been hailed as good Samaritans, after they returned a bag containing `1 lakh cash along with other documents, which was left by a passenger travelling in the first class compartment of a local train on Monday.
“I boarded the first class compartment of a CST-bound train from Vashi at around 12.56 pm. As the seats were dirty, I switched compartments at Mankhurd station, but left behind the plastic bag containing `1 lakh and documents,” said Lavin Semlani (30), a cloth merchant, who was travelling with his brother.
“I suddenly realised that I had forgotten to take the bag with me, and again returned to the same compartment when the train reached Govandi. I was amazed as a team of policemen comprising four officers were questioning other passengers about the abandoned bag.”
Mr Semlani said that the bag contained the money he was going to repay as part of the loan he had taken for his father’s ailment. The RPF police team, which returned the bag, was headed by police sub-inspector Amit Jain from the Kurla RPF. The team was travelling in the train to prosecute unauthorised hawkers and eunuchs harassing passengers. “I have not seen a honest person like the PSI who returned my bag,” said Mr Semlani.
The police team returned the bag after completing the procedures. “In order to appreciate the honesty of the team, we have declared a cash reward of `1000,” said Alok Bohra, senior divisional security commissioner, RPF.
