Hospital says victim stable, depressed but composed
The medical condition of the 22-year-old gangrape victim, who is being treated at the Jaslok Hospital on Peddar Road in South Bombay is said to be “stable”.
Addressing the media on Friday evening, acting chief executive officer (CEO) and medical administrator of the hospital Dr Taran Gianchandani said, “The victim was brought to us at around 8 pm on Thursday. We are addressing the media only because it is a national issue, but the family has expressed its desire to maintain strict privacy, as is expected in such a tragic situation.”
The victim, a press photographer with a national lifestyle magazine, has sustained internal and external injuries, but hasn’t sustained any fractures. She was reported to have been bleeding earlier, but it has stopped now. She also underwent a minor “investigative surgical procedure” on Friday morning to ascertain the extent of internal injury she has suffered, said Dr Gianchandani.
“The girl is naturally depressed, but at the same time, she is composed and conversing with the family members. She is also not in intensive care unit (ICU), nor was she at any point since the time of her arrival in the hospital,” clarified the CEO. The hospital has sent blood samples of the victim to the forensic laboratory for further confirmatory DNA tests of the rape.
Meanwhile, the hospital refused to comment on the condition of the boy who was accompanying the victim and had also sustained injuries in the incident and received treatment in the casualty ward of the hospital.
