Hotel owner, director's kin held in connection with rave party
The police on Monday arrested the director of the elite Oakwood Hotel in Juhu in connection with the rave party busted there on Sunday. Furthermore, a relative of television director Ramand Sagar was also arrested after he interfered in the police’s proceedings under the influence of alcohol.
According to police sources, Vishay Handa (31), the director of Oakwood Hotel, was arrested and charge under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act early on Monday. He has been remanded to police custody till May 25.
The police also said that Amrit Sagar Chopra, the grandson of celebrated TV director Ramanand Sagar, was arrested after he allegedly manhandled a few policemen during the raid. He was subsequently let off on a bond of `7,000, the police said.
“All the detainees were allowed to go after we collected blood and urine samples. They were made to sign an undertaking saying they would cooperate with the police’s inquiries,” said Vishwas Nangre-Patil, additional commissioner of police, west region.
The police also confirmed the presence of cricketers Wayne Parnell and Rahul Sharma at the party, along with celebrities like actresses Shilpa and Apoorva Agnihotri and fashion designer Rocky S. All of these celebrities have offered varying reactions to their presence, from outright denial to claiming ignorance about the nature of the party.
The police has now formed a team of four experienced officers to find out who sold the drugs that were confiscated in the party. The disc jockeys that were playing at the party are being questioned to confirm or eliminate their complicity, as drug dealers have known to masquerade as DJs in the past.
