Housing sector got boost during CM’s 2-year reign
Maharashtra CM Prithviraj Chavan, who completed two years as head of the state on Monday, took a review of the work done during his reign.
In the past, the CM has been criticised for his inability to take bold decisions. Nevertheless, Mr Chavan has taken significant decisions in the housing sector, to facilitate the realisation of the common man’s dream of owning a house. Some of the decisions include scrapping need for NOC from builder for sale of flat, 20 per cent reservation for low income groups in mega-housing projects, affordable houses, development of cessed buildings etc.
Another major decision taken during this period was the cluster development at Bhendi Bazaar, which will cover an area of 39,585 sq metres. Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (Mhada) has also planned to provide good quality houses at Sector 5, under the first phase of the Dharavi redevelopment project.
Apart from the decisions in the housing sector, the state government has
also undertaken development of an airport at Karad and religious destinations, set up new government offices, carried out road widening projects, revamped forts, made provision for various health schemes etc.

Ex-guj minister appears before city court

Nine of the 19 accused in the Sohrabbudin Shaikh encounter case, including former Gujarat minister Amit Shah, who are out on bail, appeared before the Esplanade court after summons were issued to them. All the accused were present to complete the initial technical formalities, before the case was committed to the special CBI court, as directed by the Supreme Court in September.
Magistrate A.A. Khan adjourned the case till November 23, since the arrested accused were not produced. As per the mandatory procedure, the accused bails stand cancelled as soon as the case is committed and they have to apply for fresh bails. In most cases, the bail is granted soon after the application is moved.
The Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) had allegedly abducted Sohrabbudin and his wife from Hyderabad; they were killed in a fake encounter near Gandhinagar in November 2005.
Shah had to quit the Modi government soon after a abduction and murder case was slapped against him.
