Idol Students Yet To Get Complete Study Material
Lack of writers has left students of the Institute of Distance and Open Lear-ning (IDOL), University of Mumbai without study material that they are expected to receive immediately after admission.
A student, who took admission during the online process last month, claimed that he was given study material for only a few subjects. “When I asked about the remaining study material, I was told that the institute did not have it,” said the student.
IDOL officials confirmed the development and said that they were in the process of getting the remaining study material written and would provide it to students by the end of October.
On inquiring with higher officials, it was learnt that the problem was a chronic one, and the institute did not have study material for many subjects from different streams. “IDOL has been facing this problem for several years. As the syllabus is different from what is taught in colleges, the institute provides the study material to students at the time of admissions,” said an official.
Further, with the syllabus undergoing changes on a regular basis, the study material also needs to be constantly rewritten. “The institute has invited experts from the particular subjects to write the study material, but has not got sufficient response as a result of which the same has been delayed,” said the official. Admitting to the problem, Dr D. Haricha-ndan, director, IDOL, said that they were trying their best to get the study material prepared at the earliest.
