IG will probe graft charges against cop
Home minister R.R. Patil on Wednesday announced that the inspector general of police (ACB) would be probing the complaints against additional commissioner of police (south region) Krishna Prakash.
The announcement, which was made during the question-hour in the state Assembly, came in the wake of serious allegations of corruption and money laundering through land deals levelled by leader of Opposition Eknath Khadse and BJP legislators Devendra Fadnavis and Sudhir Munga-ntiwar, against the senior police officer. Mr Khadse alleged that the while se72ving as the SP of Ahmednagar, the IPS officer bought two acres of land there and three acres of land at Shirdi.
He also bought flats in Pune and Mumbai, Mr Khadse added.
Mr Fadnavis claimed that wherever the officer was posted, he bought prime lands at cheap rates. “How could he get land near the Shirdi airport for a mere `1 lakh, when the market rate was `30 lakh,” he asked.
Mr Mungantiwar demanded that officer should be suspended. However, Mr Patil rejected the demand to suspend the IPS officer. He said, “The probe will be completed within three months and the report will be tabled in the House.”
