Ineligible profs assessing papers for MU: Buctu
The Bombay University and College Teachers’ Union (Buctu) on Wednesday alleged that the University of Mumbai has been assigning the task of assessing exam answersheets to unapproved and unqualified teachers from unaided colleges. Buctu officials said that they would be taking up the issue with the governor and also writing to the government to point out the devious practices being adopted by the University, thus jeopardising the future of students.
“Unapproved teachers from colleges, with teaching experience of less than a year, have been asked to do assessments. Since these teachers are not permanent appointments, they have to follow to the principal’s orders. However, the University is bending the rules as assessment of final-year degree papers is being done by professors not eligible for it,” said Madhu Paranjape, general secretary of Buctu.
However, an official from MU examination department said, “After considering the massive dearth of evaluators, a circular was issued by the varsity that allowed teachers with two years of experience to assess the papers.”
