Inquiry against Tatkare at advanced stage: ACB
Sandeep Karnik, superintendent of police, Anti Corruption Bureau Thane, has confirmed in a written reply to senior BJP leader Dr Kirit Somaiya that the inquiry against irrigation minister Sunil Tatkare for his alleged role in the irrigation scam and disproportionate assets case has reached an advanced stage.
According to the letter received by Dr Somaiya’s office, Mr Karnik has said that the director general, ACB has taken cognisance of the application and ordered a discreet
inquiry on August 22, 2012. “Despite the voluminous case data files submitted from your side, the inquiry proceeded speedily and reached an advanced stage by the month of February,” said the letter.
The letter also mentioned that the ACB received another fresh applications of 208 pages on February 28 this year by Dr Somaiya, which has been added to the ongoing inquiry. Mr Karnik assured the BJP leader that the speeding up of the inquiry was done and the end result would be communicated to him after its completion.
Dr Somaiya registered a complaint with the ACB on July 31, 2012 regarding role of irrigation minister in the alleged `70,000-crore irrigation scam and the disproportionate assets case. He also filed a writ petition in the Bombay high court with reference to his complaint. After directives from the HC, the ACB started a discreet inquiry into the matter. However, Dr Somaiya is not happy with the development.
He said, “After nine months, the discreet inquiry is said to have been complete, but what about the further inquiry? When is it going to be completed?”
In view of the prolonged process, the BJP has decided to take the matter before the high court and insist on setting of a deadline.
